Yercaud
Yercaud was founded by Governor of Madras Presidency, Thomas Munroe, in 1842. David Cockburn was called the Father of Yercaud as he helped with the development of resources of Shevaroy and for introducing the plantation and cultivation of apple, coffee and pears. Tea plantations in Yercaud was introduced by Dr.Wallich. Trees of cinnamon were also introduced during the same period. Many Christians missionaries were attracted hailing to the cool climate. They put up the Convent schools of girls and boys. MSP Rajes was the first one to start Indian coffee plantation in Yercaud.
